Since sustainability in suburbia is mainly a form issue, this project aims to turn the existing sprawl scheme into a constructive strategy of high density points, in order to control and improve transport, energy and waste management.
The answer suggested is a network of towers, housing the suburbia, yet maintaining its intrinsic characteristics: individual houses, standard-sized plots, and the possibility of politely ignoring each other. The ground freed harbors sustainability devices such as WWTP’s, photovoltaic power stations and inhabitant devoted farms. No house is deleted since they are lifted on to platforms using cranes, those platforms are then raised along a central core.
Waste flows are then grouped, passing into the core to the wastewater treatment plants. Energy flows from the photovoltaic power stations use the same paths to the houses. This core also houses double-helix ramp for cars, while pedestrians use the lifts and stairs. The specific shape of the building also allows each house natural light, privacy and exceptional viewpoints. Densification and verticalisation favors public transport by simplifying the networks, one stop now serves many houses. Moreover, at the feet of the towers, shops and malls avoid strip malls and the systematic car use they beget. Car use thus becomes anecdotic.
